Jamilla Rice, Pittsburgh Public Schools Curriculum Supervisor for K-12 Citizenship and Social Studies, is most passionate about education equity. She has dedicated her professional career to instructing students in grades 6-12 as well as mentoring teachers across all levels. Before coming to PPS, Jamilla was an English teacher and director of the English curriculum at Northside Urban Pathways Charter School Downtown, where she was a recipient of a Milken Award. She has been a presenter at many academic conferences, such as the Pennsylvania Coalition of Charter Schools conference, National Council of Teachers of English annual convention, and Pennsylvania Governor’s Institute of English Language Arts Educators. Jamilla encourages writing that speaks to the struggles, past and present, of marginalized people whose stories become minimized and, often, invisible. She has a BA in English from Hampton University, and an MA in Education from the University of Pittsburgh.
