Karen Howard, a teacher-consultant since 1983, is involved in many aspects of site work.  She is one of the co-organizers of the Pittsburgh Region Scholastic Writing Awards; she has helped establish a summer program in Braddock in collaboration with Greater Valley Community Services; and she is involved in Empowering Educators, an culturally responsive teaching initiative with the Carnegie Museum of Art.  She taught in Pittsburgh Public Schools for 30 years and  is known in the community as a storyteller and an advocate for writing and youth voice.  She participates in Madwomen in the Attic at Carlow University, and is working on a children’s book manuscript.
